Philosophy
Medicine provides the opportunity for scientific knowledge to be
applied to the purpose of enhancing life as well as preserving and
prolonging life. The physician is responsible to serve as an advocate
for the patients health. This must be tempered by an understanding
of the limits to medical knowledge and the legitimate right of every
human being to live life on their own terms. The most potent medicine
availble for truly good health is a physicians understanding of the
patient as a person.
I have a strong interest in the progress of the Human Genome
Initiative. An exciting future is opening up which will completely
revolutionize medical care and provide every one with the oportunity
to enjoy longer healthier lives.
